Big Bass Blast

★★★★☆ 4.4 Editor rating

Big Bass Blast is one of those games that looks simple in a screenshot and then quietly eats your afternoon. You tap to cast, hold to build line tension, and release to reel in — but the fish fight back, tugging in directions you have to read and counter. Get greedy and the line snaps; play too safe and the fish slips off the hook. That tension is the whole game.

We spent about a week with it and the moment things clicked was when we stopped mashing the reel button. The controls reward patience: watch the tension meter, ease off when the fish pulls hard, and pour on the pressure when it tires. Each water zone introduces new fish behaviour, so the muscle memory you build early gets tested again later. The art is bright and the sound design — that little splash when a big catch surfaces — is genuinely satisfying.

It's not a deep game and it doesn't pretend to be. Sessions are short, progress is steady, and it's easy to put down. What surprised us was how much personality it packs into a handful of mechanics. If you want something relaxing that still asks for a bit of skill, this is an easy recommendation.
